As part of the New World Project programme for Durham University, PH Partnership designed and project managed the construction of a new Primary Data Centre.
The design was based on the latest energy efficient cooling technologies which take advantage of ‘free cooling’ to reduce the energy required to power the data centre. Also, hot air air flows within the data room were contained within a hot aisle arrangement which reduces the need for expensive cooling. As a result, the data centre has a design PUE (Power Use Efficiency) of 1.18 which ranks amongst the best in the world.
The project will deliver a flexible and secure facility to host the University’s IT applications and store its data. This will allow the support of the University’s future teaching and research needs from a modern, efficient IT platform.
